Dr. Perraut Sits Down with DJ Arrianna Nichols

Morning DJ Arrianna Nichols, from 106.9 The Eagle in Hagerstown, MD, had the opportunity to sit down with Dr. Perraut and discuss her experiences with laser eye surgery as well as learn more from him about the process of laser vision correction. Arrianna received her laser vision correction from Dr. Perraut this past December. Dr. Perraut practices in Frederick, MD at his business, LASIKPro. Below is some of the interview between Arrianna Nichols and Dr. Perraut.

AN: Tell me about what’s so rewarding about what you do.
EP: You know I did a doctor who’s an OB-GYN and when she got up and sat at the end of the table and looked around and got a big smile on her face, she said you know we have very similar specialties, and I go, “Really how so?”, and she says, “It’s a happy thing.” That’s what fun about it, it is a happy thing and people are so happy and just right away it’s a life changing experience and that’s just so rewarding.

AN: And the way that you deliver it is different from a lot of doctors because you did come from the top notch in your field.
EP: Right, I’m in the top 5% of Lasik surgeons nationwide and I’ve worked for and been medical director at a large corporate Lasik facility. I decided I really wanted to open LASIKPro, I’ve been in the Frederick market since 1999, but I really wanted to open it to provide a more personal one-on-one type of care with the latest technology. It’s really been a lot of fun.

AN: Well in my experience coming in I met you right away. I worked with your staff a little bit. They kind of you know ran the machines and stuff like that to figure out where I needed to be and what we could do, and then you were there and you talked to me about what my actual experience was going to be.
EP: It’s not just that, I think it’s really important for the surgeon to, number one, get to know the patient, everybody’s different no two eyes are the same no two patients are the same. Everybody has different fears and aspirations and goals, things they want to get out of this. I think it’s just really important to get to know the individual.

AN: One of my favorite things you said was “You can’t mess this up!”
EP: Well that’s really true; you know one of the big things that keep people from getting Lasik is fear. What I always tell people is the fact is that it really doesn’t hurt, it only takes about 5 minutes an eye and I talk to you the whole way through, no surprises and there’s really nothing you can do to mess it up. These lasers have trackers and the tracker can track your eye a thousand times faster than your eye can move. Everybody when they’re done, they sit up, they get a big smile on their face, and they say, “Wow this is really cool,” and then they look around and say, “I don’t know what I was worried about, that was nothing.” I always say, “How come nobody ever believes me!”

AN: I knew everything that was going on, you were calm in your voice the whole time and I knew that everything was going great.
EP: You know I think if you know what’s happening and what’s going on then it’s a lot less scary.

AN: And one of the other things that I guess people probably would be concerned about is financing this whole thing.
EP: Financing is available; we can really make it at a very affordable cost. In the long run though when we’re done virtually everybody says to me, you know I figured it out and actually this is a whole lot cheaper than glasses and contacts and almost on top of that you get the side benefit of not having the hassle of glasses and contacts. So they figure that out afterwards, that actually it is cheaper in the long run.

EP: You know the other thing people worry about is problems afterwards, and the fact of the matter is that having Lasik done is quite a bit safer than contact lenses. Complications from contact lenses are infections and scratched corneas, and you have a lot higher risk of having problems with your eyes with contacts than you do with Lasik. We started LASIKPro because I wanted to provide the most up-to-date technology in a more personal setting than we could provide in a corporate setting. We have all the latest technology in a single location so it’s not necessary to go to other locations to have other testing done, it’s all done on site and it’s all done with the latest technology available. Having done over 45,000 eyes, I have a very good feel for what is the best technology and what gives the best results with the fewest complications. With LASIKPro I have the freedom to get the equipment and the technology and the diagnosis equipment and have it all on site to provide that service in a real personal one-on-one [setting].

PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: DEC. 20, 2010

LASIKPro Laser Eye Center Brings Fastest and Most Advanced Eye Tracking Technology for Better Results to Charlottesville

LASIKPro Laser Eye Center in Charlottesville is now utilizing the Allegretto Wave® Eye-Q Laser that has the fastest and most advanced eye tracking technology available for better results. LASIKPro is the only laser center to offer this technology in Charlottesville.

Charlottesville, Virginia (PRWEB) December 20, 2010 –LASIKPro Laser Eye Center now utilizes the Allegretto Wave® Eye-Q Laser that has the fastest and most advanced eye tracking technology available for better results and the highest approval ratings.

L. Edward Perraut, Jr., M.D., owner and head LASIK surgeon at LASIKPro, left the TLC Laser Eye Center in Charlottesville in order to start his own practice: LASIKPro. He has practiced laser vision correction in Charlottesville for the past 12 years and will continue to perform LASIK in Charlottesville. Dr. Perraut also uses this same state-of-the-art laser in his other LASIKPro center in Frederick, MD.

The Allegretto Wave® Eye-Q Laser is one of the newest, most advanced lasers on the market and is the first laser system to receive approval for the treatment of both nearsightedness and farsightedness. It can also treat a wider range of patient prescriptions than any other laser and has unparalleled customization abilities. The laser is part of the “WaveFront Optimized” system that not only corrects a patient’s vision, but also possesses a unique eye-tracking system that is able to adjust to the position of the patient’s eye at any given time.

The advanced eye-tracking technology moves faster than a patient’s eye, so if the patient’s eye moves during the vision correction process, the laser stops and waits for the eye to move back into position before proceeding. This allows it to be the fastest laser on the market while maintaining extreme precision and safety. Its unmatched speed, safety and precision have earned this laser the highest approval ratings.

Dr. Perraut is a highly experienced LASIK surgeon having performed more than 45,000 procedures, ranking him in the top 5% of LASIK surgeons nationwide. He has been performing laser vision correction in Charlottesville for the past 12 years and continues his service in the area by opening LASIKPro.

LASIKPro is located at 1100 East High St., Suite 1A, Charlottesville, VA 22902. For more information about LASIKPro or to schedule a FREE LASIK consultation, visit the website at www.thelasikpro.com or call (434) 566-0108.

Our Advanced Technology

When Dr. Perraut created LASIKPro Laser Eye Center, he wanted to make the absolute best LASIK technology readily available for his patients. So that’s exactly what he did. LASIKPro is the only laser center to have its own Allegretto Wave® Eye-Q Excimer Laser and Pentacam Comprehensive Eye Scanner on-site in Charlottesville and Frederick so patients don’t have to leave the area for customized and convenient care.

The Pentacam Comprehensive Eye Scanner

The Pentacam Comprehensive Eye Scanner provides more precise measurements of the central cornea than any other ocular measurement instrument currently available. This scanner photographs and maps both the front and back of the eye and all surfaces of the cornea to help create completely customized laser vision correction.

The Allegretto Wave® Eye-Q Excimer Laser

The Allegretto Wave® Eye-Q excimer laser delivers the fastest laser vision correction procedures available in the U.S., while ensuring safety, precision, range and overall patient comfort. All of these factors combined have helped this laser to receive higher approval ratings than any other laser in its class.

Speed
With a 400 hertz repetition rate, the Allegretto Wave® Eye-Q makes the laser vision correction procedure faster than ever.  This reduction in treatment time helps provide a shorter and more comfortable procedure for the patient. And because the eye begins recovery as soon as the procedure ends, this also means a speedier recovery.

Precision & Safety
This laser utilizes PerfectPulse Technology® that makes sure every laser pulse is completely controlled from its generation to the point when it contacts the cornea. This technology ensures maximum safety and precision while still working at a high speed.

Range
The Allegretto Wave® Eye-Q Excimer Laser can treat a wider range of patient prescriptions than any other laser. This allows more patients than ever to experience the amazing, life-changing results of laser vision correction.

How LASIK Works

A lot of people have questions about LASIK surgery.  It may seem like a very mysterious process.  In fact, LASIK is a short and easy procedure that leaves you with clear vision and no need to bother with glasses or contact ever again!

The acronym LASIK stands for Laser Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis.  This type of eye surgery is the most popular and successful vision correction procedure in the world. It is a permanent procedure used to improve a person’s vision quality and eliminate his or her dependence on glasses or contact lenses.

LASIK is a fast, outpatient procedure performed while you are awake and lying flat on a surgical laserbed. At LASIKPro, before the procedure begins you will be offered a mild sedative and special anesthetic drops will be added to numb the eyes and ensure comfort.

There are three steps to the LASIK process:

Step 1: Your eye will be gently immobilized so there will be no movement during the procedure. Next, a very thin flap is created to expose the underlying cornea, and is carefully lifted like the page of a book.

Step 2: Using a cool-beam excimer laser that has been individually programmed and double-verified with your exact eye measurements and an electronic mapping of your eye, your cornea is reshaped to optimize vision.

Step 3: The flap is then replaced, and immediately begins healing itself! The entire procedure can be completed in a matter of minutes.

Don't let the talk of lasers scare you, Meta-analysis done in March 2008 by the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery revealed a 95.4 percent patient satisfaction rate among LASIK patients worldwide.  Think about it, if you only buy a new pair of glasses every other year, you're likely to spend $200 on a decent pair of glasses. If you do that from age 15 to 55, you will have spent $4,000!

At The LASIKPro Laser Eye Center we treat you like family.  You can trust us to make you see 20/20- or even better- 20/Happy.
